Your physician will schedule your procedure while you are in the office or call you by phone.
Before Your Procedure
Special Medication Precautions
If you are taking the following medications, please let our staff know immediately. It may be necessary for you to stop these medications prior to your procedure.
Please arrange for a friend or family member to accompany you to your procedure. You will need this person to drive you home following your procedure due to the moderate sedation you will receive for your procedure. Your driver must stay at the hospital in the endoscopy waiting room until you are discharged from Endoscopy Services. This person should remain with you at least four hours once you return home to be certain your recovery is progressing as expected.
The Day Before Your Procedure
If you develop a fever, cold or rash the day before your procedure, please contact your doctor at once, as it may be necessary to reschedule your procedure. Also, ask your physician if you should continue to take any prescribed medications the day before or the day of your procedure. For those who take daily medication for heart disease, blood pressure, or diabetes, this is especially important.
Important Information to Bring to Your Appointment
Please remember to bring the following items to your appointment:
- Insurance card
- Current medication list
- Any paperwork the physician has mailed to you concerning your procedure

Personal Belongings
For safety reasons, metal should be removed from the body prior to the procedure including jewelry, hearing aides, and body piercings. Valuables should also be left at home or given to your driver prior to your procedure.
Diabetic Patients
If you are a diabetic, please check your blood sugar before leaving for the hospital.
Payment
Payment is expected at time of service for charges not covered by insurance.
Following Your Procedure
St. John staff will escort you to your car in a wheelchair following your procedure.
